Dr Sabrina Lei

Dr Sabrina Lei is a young Italian philosopher and poet. She has a Master’s in modern philosophy and a Ph.D in ancient philosophy. Dr. Lei has contributed enormously to Italian cultural and its literary space, through over 50 varied works published in Italian on diverse subjects such as philosophy, poetry, story-telling, classics, theology, history and cultural studies.

Trained for over a decade in classical Latin and Greek literature and poetry, Dr. Lei has translated many passages and poems from classical Greek and Latin into Italian. Her Italian translations of some of the surviving poems of two of the foremost sixth-century BC Greek poets, Alcaeus of Mytilene and Sappho, were widely appreciated for their beauty and originality.

Dr Sabrina Lei has won numerous national and international merits, certificates and awards of excellence instituted for young scholars of classical literature and poetry.  She has recently produced a fine Italian translation of one of UAE’s well-known poets Dr Shihab Ghanem’s Waves, a spectacular collection of his love poems under the title Onde (Tawasul Europe, 2018). 

Some of her other widely acclaimed works are Soliloquio, the Italian translation of the South Asian poet Perveen Shakir’s Khud Kalami,titled La Stagione Dell.  She has also translated Mazhar ul Islam’s celebrated collection of poetic short stories called The Season of Love, Bitter Almonds and Delayed Rains (Jay Editore, Rome, 2014). Dr. Lei recently produced the Italian translation of the Indian novelist-cum-poet Mirza Muhammad Hadi Rusva’s (1857-1931) Umrao Jaan Ada.

As the director of Tawasul Europe Centre for Research and Dialogue, based in Rome, Dr Sabrina Lei is actively involved in building peace, cultural and human ties across religions and nations through works of literature, poetry, philosophy and respectful dialogue of civilizations.

Dr Lei published her own collection of poems on themes of love and universal peace in early 2019. She has also recently completed the Italian translation of Kamala Surayya’s highly spiritual poems devoted Allah.
