Hydra

By Claudio Pozzani

I have seven heads on tentacles

and that in the centre is venomous

seven heads which guide me

along a dangerous road

Seven heads which if you sever them,

immediately sprout back just as many, the same

my ideas are not extinguished

by the blows of daggers

I move slowly in a droplet

in an infinitesimal universe

and strive in vane against the flapping

of the laundry in the Mistral

Heracles used a trick on me

but I am immortal like a thought

I respond with dreams to the mediocre beings

I am the sailboat on pure water

Gemmation to reproduce myself

and like a pheonix I am reborn

I make from my body my nation

pertinacity and relapse without autodafé

I turn on my tentacles

like a sensual propeller

I produce whirlpools and water dances

on your animal side

I am evasive

like a bomber drone

I am impalpable ecstasy

and I cannot belong to you

But when I sense you I am happy

like an umbrella which opens up

like a river under the rain

like Hermione who deceives me.

A Hydra I am and will always be

monster, enigma or marvel

I am lost in a droplet

fallen silently from your eyelash
