Kindling Hopes

False hope rises to my chest,
Curtains of tears cascade down my cheeks and shield my eyes, As they touch my lips, my mouth turns saline;
For every time I dashed my agonies with salt.

The merry scenarios I play in my head; They’re all breakable heaven.
This trap is the only escape I seek.
And yet when I willingly undress my thoughts, The walls of foil sickness close in.

Of the bleeding tears, not all are of joy, And even if the prison is a fearful place; It is one of the safest.
And our minds, are colorless prisons That paint the world radiant with hope.

And in the space between now and forever,
We leave our virtues behind like footprints on a beach Only for them to wash away with the tides of age;
Our hind sights are fogged and priorities clouded.

And your mother’s fingers are no longer tangled in your hair while Caressing them;
Instead that of your own, fearing what is to come.

We roam these icy city streets,
Seeking warmth in the frosty corners,
Unaware of the fireplaces back home;
The bodies which now have wrinkled, shaking and cold hands Knit you sweaters of love and enlightenment.

We’re stranded islanders in an ocean of emotions And
yet we neglect our guiding lights, our elders.
Music is our new abode, and the words embodied, new friends.
Yet the sounds of your mother’s anklets
And grandmother’s early morning chants
Soften the toughest hearts and break down walls from years bygone.

Though not always on the same page, we all reach an end alike. With wars come celebrations, With laughter come tears,
With friends come foes,
Yet, despite confrontations and conflicts, we exist.

Even when our values are rekindled, Why can we not live equally?
For the earth has only so much to offer, And our desires are everlasting.

Why have we adapted to hate and indifference so swiftly, But not the people only so different from you?
We’re the castle of blocks made by children,
Prise one, and it all falls apart.
