Environment

Earth laughs in the flowers,

Heavens pour blessings in rain showers.

Rain-washed sun spreading warmth in the sky,

The vibrant rainbow is a treat to the eye.

Humming, thrumming, buzzing, chirping,

All heard thereafter in the orchestra of nature.

But, I wonder,

Will my imagination last in the future?

Running in the cut-throat rat-race of success,

Most overlook the blessings of nature bestowed on them.

This story, though, is about a hero,

Who declined this rhythm of materialistic success

And proved himself to be a real gem.

Years ago,

Lands were washed out,

No one heard Mother Nature’s shout,

Reptiles were crawling towards death.

When a young boy stepped in to change her fate.

One less tree, one less life,

Inching towards a horrible future in disguise.

He alerted all.

Some laughed, some smirked,

But he was really disturbed.

He did not lose hope and paved his own way,

Located an island on the river bank,

And began planting saplings everyday.

No labor, no helping hand,

It was tough to water plants everyday on such a vast land.

Bamboo platforms, he built above the plants,

Earthen pots with water, he placed on top.

A few holes in the pots were made,

And the way to the solution was paved.

No hurdle could stop him,

No obstacle could bother him,

Against all, His determination made him win.

Decades passed by,

The same man, still serving Mother Earth,

Acres of barren land turned into jungle, to which he gave birth.

The jungle is home to hundreds of wildlife,

Each new life, making his face smile.

Giving up worldly pleasures,

Giving up luxury,

He helped Mother Nature selflessly.

He fought this battle alone with his willpower and strength,

And stood strong, confident, persistent and unbent.

It’s your turn now,

How long will you ignore Earth’s cry?

How long will you let lands dry?

How long will you quietly see wildlife suffering?

How long will it take you to plant your first sapling?
