Ambivalent Tranquillity

Drops fall into the moonlit water,
concentric circles pushing away floating leaves, the stillness is accented by the distant darkness, but we work endlessly with heavy heaves,

peace masks our pain,
an unconfined universal lie, how can you tell them to smile, when you yourself dream to die,

but if we wake you up from your utopian slumber, snap out of your dream and become humbler, the lies come true, the mask is real,
it exists, but it’s built on fear,

is that so bad though? order ruled by pain, maybe it’s perfect? beautiful is a day with rain,

maybe it’s meant to be,
this imperfect, disgusting reality,
the sun still rises and we still breathe, this peaceful duality.
