Resilience

Fight, accept, retaliate
It is resisting what’s to come
And building boundaries within
To survive the tribulations that befall.

Absorbing, deflecting, maneuvering,
Your way through when walls are falling
It is letting the sunshine burst in
To help rise, the dormant seedling.

It is healing, developing, connecting
With the voice of your inner mind
For the reason that comes from within
Is enough to last a lifetime.

We’re prone to be hurt beyond repair
That’s when the feelings go fragile & numb
But the human heart they say
Can with resilience, mend broken hope.

It’s not the pressure of the fall
Or the abrasions that they caused
But the capability to get back up
And fight the origin with tenacity.

For when things are broken apart
And you feel shattered to the core
It is resilience that will mould you
Back into your desired form.

It is surviving the worst
And thriving in the moment.

It is how the laurel oak
Bends to the flow of the zephyr
Only to bounce back once again
When it feels the calm in the air.

Perhaps more than an unrealized element
It’s a fraction of the universe that does
With mighty purpose and persistence
Shows the potential innate in us.

Resilience need not be the thunderous roaring of the sea
Sometimes it’s simply the remembrance that you can be
Amidst the frigid cold, the source that’s warm.
Or the calm, before the violent storm.

It is how you lose a mighty battle
But unsheathe your sword once again.
Because you believe you can, and you will
It doesn’t matter, a little bloodstain.

When you feel overwhelmed by the cacophony
It’s how you twist the notes as you desire
Transforming the chaos into a melody
Is a human’s enshrouded superpower.

It is the phantom that circulates in you
When called out, makes you indomitable
What is a human without resilience?
No rain, no flower.

About the Poet

Aayisha Hannath is a Grade 12 student from Gulf Asian English School, Sharjah

While she is not busy with my academic pursuits, she enjoy reading and writing. As a vehement reader of books & poetry, from Wordsworth to Rumi, she believes that poetry is a magical way of expressing oneself. And that’s exactly what she has been doing when her emotions get too overwhelming to bear it all inside.
