Invincible Spirit

To be invincible

Is to be strong

Is to not give up,

When everything feels wrong.

To be invincible,

Is to stand tall

And help others in need,

Whenever they falter or fall.

It’s not something that is given.

It’s not something that’s taught,

It’s something we are born with,

Whether we like it or not.

It ties us together,

This invisible link.

It ties us together,

In more ways than you think.

Whether by sheer humanity,

Or humility.

By our insanity,

And even our personalities.

In times of need,

In times of distress,

It’s this link that helps us through

All the chaos and the mess.

Our spirits remain strong,

Whether it be by a lot or by a little,

Our invincibility remains with us,

even when belittled.

About The Poet

Shivar Maharaj ,  14-year-old South African , is currently in Year 10 , at Diyafah International School, Abu Dhabi.

He  moved to the UAE 5 years ago. He is  currently studying the IGCSE Curriculum, wherein he has  chosen to pursue Geography, Design Technology and Business Studies, in hope of becoming an architect. He enjoys  reading, drawing, and spending time with loved ones.

The poem he has  written is about what invincibility means to him, and how our spirits can be connected.  He feels that , during the pandemic, we have all had a big part to play in following the rules and regulations, and because of the invincible spirit inside all of us, we have learned to help one another in these uncertain times, and stand strong even when the odds seem stacked against us.
