Beacon of Light

Though things might seem dark,

The light is on its way.

During these tough times

We all have to stay.

Things might seem difficult

But they’ll get better soon.

Corona won’t stay long

It’ll be gone by monsoon.

As I look upwards

I’m greeted with murky skies,

The gloom hangs over me

Submissively threatening to take control

Finally, the hope of the bright sun

Shall manage to break through the gloom

While I ruminate of the good times ahead

That shall evade from the radical uncertainty.

While pessimism might cloud your brain,

Optimism begs for entry.

Since optimism and pessimism can’t stay together

They must part their ways.

Nonetheless, you could decide

Whichever one to keep.

The world shall have some fanciful offerings

Taking all of us away

From the recoiling despair.

No more shall we be trapped in the same void

Trying to hold us tight within its grasp,

Surfaced at multitudes around the cemented city.

Invincible hope mirrors as the beacon of light

As millions strive to overcome their daily struggles

Amidst this pandemic, COVID-19.

About the Poet

Zaira is a twelve-year, eighth grader from Greenwood International School who is a logophile with a penchant for books. Thereby, she indulges in reading a diverse range of genres that reflect her wide interests in her leisure time. She cherishes reading and writing poetry, where draws inspiration from real-life experiences. Her biggest inspiration, though, is her own mother, Sazina Khan, who earlier this year, released a collection of poems titled, The Chamber of Expressions. Zaira is currently reviewing her own novel which shall be published next year.
