Promising Contradictions/Algunas… sí

Free market is anything
But free.
We want to stand out for being different,
But we proclaim equality.
We want healthy people,
but we sell them cigarettes.
We want peace (and really want it),
but we give guns for Christmas.
The more stubborn is our silence,
all the more disturbing to others’ ears.
We love animals,
but we serve them us lunch.
Granted… there are also
Promising, beautiful contradictions:
Pragmatic idealists!
Who dream of a better world and… make it.
El libre mercado es cualquier cosa
menos libre.
Queremos destacarnos por diferentes,
pero pregonamos la igualdad.
Queremos personas sanas,
pero les vendemos cigarrillos.
Queremos la paz (y de veras la queremos),
pero regalamos pistolas en Navidad.
Cuanto más obstinado es nuestro silencio,
tanto más aturde.
Amamos a los animales,
pero los convertimos en almuerzos.
Claro que también existen
las contradicciones hermosas, buenas.
Así, los idealistas pragmáticos
sueñan un mundo mejor y lo hacen.
