Abdul Hameed AlQaed

Abdul Hameed Al Qaed is a poet, novelist, writer and translator from Bahrain.

Many of his poems and other works have been published in Arabic newspapers, magazines and periodicals. He has taken part in several poetry recitals in Bahrain and overseas.

Abdul has translated quite a few English poems, short stories and essays into Arabic, including the well-known ‘Letters from Van Gogh’ which he translated from English to Arabic. He also translated the novel ‘Nooran’ by Bahraini writer Farid Ramadan, as part of a joint graphic work with famous Bahraini artist Jamal Abdul Rahim.

His first poetry collection was ‘Lover in the Era of Thirst’.  He published his second book of poetry ‘Noise of Whisper’, in 2003 which was printed in Arabic and included an English translation of the work by the writer himself. It won the first prize in the ‘Distinguished Book’ competition, 2003 organized annually by the Ministry of Information in Bahrain.

In 2007 Abdul published ‘Pearl, Dreams of Shell – Anthology of Bahrain Contemporary Poetry’ in USA. It is a collection of poems from 29 contemporary Bahraini poets and is compiled and translated by him. It is mainly distributed in USA and UK and could be found on Amazon, amongst other website. 

His third book ‘Alienation of Violets’ was published in March 2010. It is also a bilingual collection of Arabic and English poems translated by the writer himself. His 4th poetry collection ‘Nothing Matters Anymore’ was published in 2016.

In 2017, Abdul published his first novel ‘Love Has Ashes’ and is currently writing his second novel ‘Path of the Spider. He also has two poetry collections ready for printing: ‘Dancing inside the Body’ and ‘Rain Spray Astonishment’.  Abdul has another book ready for printing titled ‘Light for Darkness’, which is a collection of his essays that have been published in local newspapers.

Abdul has a weekly column titled ‘Glow of Writing’ in a local newspaper in Bahrain.
