Purnima Varman

Purnima Varman developed a natural love for nature and beautiful things from an early age. She studied literature, music and painting, wrote a thesis on “Realism in Post Independence Sanskrit Literature” and obtained diplomas in journalism and web publishing. She draws her inspiration for poetry from nature, humanity and India’s multi-cultural values. In 1983 she started her career as a journalist in India. She has published ‘Purva’ and ‘Vakt ke Saath’ a collection of poems. She launched her two Hindi magazines on net by name of Abhivyakti and Anubhuti.

With these magazines she opened a common platform for Hindi creative writers all over the world. She worked hard to establish Navgeet (a style of traditional Indian poetry with a flavor of contemporary language and concerns) and presented it in various modes of media like drama, dance, painting, music and film. A regular contributor to the leading Hindi newspapers and magazines in India and abroad she also prepared programs for Radio and T.V. Many of her works has been translated into English, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi, Danish and Russian. Purnima Varman is married and lives with her family in Sharjah.

She has been awarded: ICCI’s Padmashri Dr. Moturi Satyanarayan Award by the President of India- Pratibha Patil (2012), Pravasi Media Award by Sahitya academy New Delhi (2006). Jaijaivanti Samman by Jaijaivant India (2008). Hindi Gaurav samman by Srijangatha Raipur Chhattisgarh (2008). An honourary Ph.D. is accredited to her by Vikramshila Hindi Vidyapeeth Bhagalpur (2013).
